The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, Mississippi Gaming Commission and the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office will join Special Olympics of Mississippi (SOMS) athletes tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8, for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run as it passes through Jackson.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Mississippi Gaming Commission on 620 North Street. The run includes a 0.7 mile route and torch-passing downtown. It will conclude with a ceremony on the south steps of the Mississippi State Capitol.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run—coordinated by the Special Olympics of Mississippi—unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the Special Olympics of Mississippi. Each summer, law enforcement officials carry the Flame of Hope across the state, ending on the Gulf Coast with the lighting of the cauldron, which officially opens the Special Olympics Summer Games. This year’s Torch Run kicks off today in DeSoto County and will conclude on Friday, May 10, at Keesler Air Force Base.
