With the qualifying deadline for municipal election candidates passed, the 2017 Town of Pelahatchie election season has begun in earnest. As all candidates are running independent, citizens will vote in the general election scheduled for June 6.


Three mayoral candidates have qualified in a bid to succeed Mayor Knox Ross, who is leaving the Mayor’s office after sixteen years in that position. Alderwoman Megan Hall, Educator Shannon Boyce, and Businesswoman Ryshonda Beechem.


Three aldermen are running unopposed, Michael Adams in Ward One, Frank Boyd in Ward Two, and Margie Warren in Ward Three. Ward Four has two candidates who want to replace Megan Hall, Chris Courtney and James Harrell.


Alderman-At-Large Jerry Norwood is not seeking reelection, and has two candidates running for his position. Patsy Jo Watson and Eddie Jones have qualified for the June election.
