Thelma Davis’ Annual Easter Egg Hunt set for April 16

By Susie A. Wolfe

The Cleveland Davis, Sr. Easter Egg Hunt has been a Pelahatchie neighborhood tradition for 19 years. Approximately 180 children will hunt around 400 eggs at 3 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 16, on Clayton Street.

Thelma Davis, with the help of her neighbor, Martha Collier, started the Easter Egg Hunt in 1998 for Davis’ daddy who loved to watch the kids hunt eggs. She provides food and prizes, but does have 32 helpers that help manage the age categories and jumpers and the meal. According to Collier who worked with Davis at Walmart, “Everybody loves Thelma and knows she has a good heart. She also coordinates a senior dinner for 100 folks at Christmas through the Angel Club.”

The Town of Pelahatchie recognized Davis in 2000 for her help in the community. Davis said that it is now a tradition that her daughter, Essie Davis Florence of Pearl, plans to continue.
