Spring brings warmer temperatures in Mississippi…the glimmering waters and abundant wildlife around the Ross Barnett Reservoir enhanced the bike journey. Countryside stretches in Madison County and Pelahatchie steady the pedals for reflection, and around town spins delight with discovery of each place.

Bikers could choose between distances from 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles with mild to moderate elevation. And there were “energizer” stops for food and water every 10-15 miles.  One such stop was in Pelahatchie on that cool morning of May 9.  Two riders sent the Pelahatchie News a note about their experience at this rest stop.

“I want to share this with you all. I rode in the Century Ride yesterday too, but only rode a quarter of the century ride. Friday night when my sister and I were picking up our race packets in Ridgeland I met a Father and daughter from Louisiana. They were riding the whole 100 miles and had ridden it last year. I asked them what they liked best about the ride and they said, the small town with the tents which was a rest stop. They said it was the friendliest little town and lifted our spirits to finish the course. As they were trying to recall the name of the small town I helped them out, and said that sounds like Pelahatchie. Thanks Pelahatchie for volunteering and showing these bikers lots of love yesterday.”
