Pelahatchie High School (PHS) will offer a Certified Production Tech (CPT) program beginning in August, according to Principal Bryan Marshall. The two-year program will allow sophomores and juniors the opportunity to have a job while in school. There may also be an adult education component for Multicraft employees and the general public. This will be the first program of its kind in Mississippi. Other states like Tennessee and Texas have working Manufacturing Skill Standards Council programs integrated with local manufacturing companies and the schools and community colleges. Marshall visited the San Antonio Alamo Academy-Phillips-Aerospace program in early February. Two hundred students from the areas' 68 high schools are part of the training for three manufacturing plants, Toyota, Lockheed Martin and Boeing Aerospace. Marshall is finalizing plan components with the Rankin County School District (RCSD) and is currently searching for teaching candidates. He said the ideal instructor is a retired plant manager with assembly production line experience.
