The 2017 Mississippi State Fair free entertainment lineup features 105 acres of music and family fun throughout 158th Mississippi State Fair 12-day run — all free with fair admission. The mile-long midway of the Mississippi State Fair will run from Wednesday, October 4- Sunday, October 15, 2017.

“We searched the entire country for the what we believe to be the best in family entertainment,” said Executive Director of Mississippi State Fairgrounds, Rick Reno.

In addition to fun and exciting carnival rides, delicious fair foods, livestock shows and a variety of exhibitors in the Mississippi Trade Mart featuring retail and non-retail vendors, you will find a wide selection of both national and local talent featured on the Budweiser Stage.  Come on out and enjoy the 158th Mississippi State Fair Oct 4-15, 2017.

In addition to the national and local musical entertainment, the 158th Annual Mississippi State Fair features a variety of free with admission family friendly entertainment throughout the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.   Some of the highlights include:

Mississippi Farm Bureau Petting Area-Pet and feed a variety of farm animals   

Racing Pigs sponsored in part by Mississippi Farm Bureau – On your mark – get set – go! Watch cute little porkers make their way around the track. Join in rooting for your favorite as they race to entertain and win a treat. – Multiple performances each of the 12 days of the Fair. Free with the price of admission.

The Famous Biscuit Booth sponsored in part by Kroger, Prairie Farms, Blackburn-Made Syrup- Stop by and enjoy a Free old-fashioned, southern-style biscuit with syrup baked by the employees of the MS Department of Agriculture and Commerce.

Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association Celebrity Beef Cookoff, Tuesday, October 10th, 10:00am, Mississippi State Fair Hospitality Tent

Butterfly Encounter – Not only can Fairgoers observe these delicate creatures up close, they also can feed them nectar from a sponge. The screened-in encounter contains more than 250 butterflies including monarchs, swallowtails and painted ladies. – In the Mississippi Trade Mart. Free with the price of admission.

Fetch and Fish- family fun that promotes hunting, fishing and educational seminar with high flying retrievers…Multiple performances each of the 12 days of the Fair. Free with the price of admission.

 

Sea Lion Splash – As the only traveling sea lion exhibit in the United States, Sea Lion Splash is a fun and unique animal performance showcasing Californian and South American sea lions. For guests who like to get up close and personal with the sea lions, there is a unique photo opportunity available after most presentations. When the Sea Lion Splash exhibit is not on the road, the stars of the show make their home in Myakka City. – Multiple performances each of the 12 days of the Fair. Free with the price of admission.

 

FFA Children’s Barnyard- open Sunday-Friday 11am-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm.  Located in Barn 6.

Stockdog Trials, Top-quality stockdogs compete for the championship in driving cattle and Sheep, Kirk, Fordice, Equine Center, Tuesday, October 10th, 9am and 6pm, Wednesday, October 11th, 9am

 

Trustmark Senior American Day, Wednesday, October 11th, 9:00am-12:00pm Featuring Guy Hovis with Raphael Semmes and the Mississippi Live! Orchestra and special guests, Jerry Puckett, Jewel Bass and Tim “Elvis” Johnson.  Special Exhibits featuring tasting, flu and pneumonia shots (if vaccine is available), blood pressure checks, drawings and educational info from various vendors.
